On 8 May 2025, Roma Civil Monitoring / Central European University, together with local coordinator Associazione 21 Luglio, co-organised the international conference “Sotto la lente” (“Under the Lens”) in the Italian Senate’s Santa Maria in Aquiro hall in Rome. The event focused on comparing methodologies used across Europe for collecting data on the Roma population.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by Senator Francesco Verducci and Mattia Peradotto, President of Italy’s National Office Against Racial Discrimination (UNAR). The agenda featured interventions from academics, government representatives, and international organisations, including speakers from the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, Sciences Po, the Slovak Government’s Roma Department, and national statistics institutes.
During the event, Associazione 21 Luglio presented the latest civil society monitoring report on Italy’s National Roma Strategic Framework 2022–2030, highlighting key findings and policy recommendations.
The event reaffirmed the importance of high-quality, inclusive data collection for evidence-based policymaking and the advancement of Roma rights across Europe.
